LA Phil Artists Entrance & Orchestra Gallery

A yearlong project to redesign the Artists Entrance and Orchestra Gallery at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The funding for the project was generously donated by Michele Moehring.

I was tasked to update the environmental design of the Artists Entrance and Orchestra Gallery to feel contemporary and elevated while highlighting our venue, Gustavo, and the Orchestra for all staff and guests who visit the LA Phil Offices.

The redesign uses materials inspired by the Walt Disney Concert Hall, to create an elevated point-of-entry for all visitors and staff. On entering the space, guests are greeted by 3 foot tall, ¼” brushed aluminum cut lettering, mirroring the exterior panels of the Hall. Past the 21’x8.5’ photo mural of Gustavo Dudamel leading the orchestra in a finale bow is The Orchestra Gallery. With a focus on highlighting the entire orchestra with production flexibility to support seasonal changes to members. The solution was four 16’ plywood custom grooved shelves holding each portrait with double acrylic glazing and swiss clips. The system can switch out easily and adapt when the number of orchestra members changes.
